Explorer Scouts are aged between fourteen and eighteen years old.

They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family and this is a Croydon District provision where they get the chance to meet other Explorers and share activities in differing units as part of Croydon Explorers. The Units have a high degree of interaction and joint activities and meetings.

Explorers are encouraged to plan their own activities and lead themselves in deciding their programme, with support and guidance from their leaders.

There will be times when you will be busy doing other things such as exams, and being an Explorer Scout will have to fit around these.

Explorer units run an exciting and challenging programme of events often away from their headquarters, where camping and trips out feature heavily.

Explorers are encouraged to take part in Scouting top awards and the Duke of Edinburgh’s award which often run in parallel in most units. Unlike the schools, Scouting is able to support the DoE award through Bronze, Silver and Gold.

Many Explorers are Young Leaders with their group providing service to the younger section and attend a Unit with their peers, forming lifelong friendships lasting all their lives. More details about the Young Leader scheme is here https://www.croydonscouting.org.uk/what-we-do/young-leaders

Explorers often form service teams for other sections camps.
