Bears Wood Camp Site
Our camp site is set in some 20 acres of ancient woodland leased to Croydon Scouting since 1935. Sympathetic management of the woodland has created an environment that is attractive, functional and, importantly, securely fenced. Quiet and secluded, with direct access to open countryside, Bears Wood lies on the edge of Croydon and is close to Central London.
The site has no resident warden but is cared for and maintained by a small group of dedicated volunteers, who have worked over many years to bring the site up to today’s standard. The aim has always been to provide a safe, secure and pleasant place where Scouting activities can be run for the enjoyment of the members.
There is a programme of continuous development of the site so that improvements to the existing facilities and the provision of new facilities are always in the pipeline. The latest is the building of the accommodation, upgrading the showers and the fabric of the original building, bringing the entire building up to modern standards.
We believe we have created a site that can cater for a variety of occasions and activities, of which Scouting can be justly proud.
