Our Campsites

Croydon Scouting is very fortunate to manage two District – run campsites in the Borough, Bears Wood Scout Campsite & Pinewood Scout Centre.

Bears Wood is near to Forestdale, Addington and the Pinewood Centre close to Shirley.

Both are approximately 15 minutes from the centre of Croydon, 30 minutes from the M25 and 40 minutes from Central London.

Bears Wood Scout Campsite

The campsite is set in 10 acres of ancient woodland leased from Croydon Council and offers a combination of large open group sites and smaller wooded patrol sites and is ideal for backwoods camping, wide games etc.

The site also has a purpose-built building with toilets, washing facilities and showers all with disabled accessibility, a large hall, small meeting room, fully equipped kitchen, an 8 roomed dormitory block that can sleep 30 and a six bedded room for adults.

There are numerous self-led activities for use either during your stay or to book as seperate activities for your evening meetings or in the daytime at weekend and holiday times.

The site is open to Scout and Guide groups and available for hire by school and youth groups alike for meetings, training and overnight experiences.

We are constantly developing the site through the hard work of our non-resident campsite team and look forward to your visit.

Pinewood Scout Centre

Pinewood Scout Centre is located in six acres of mixed woodland, close to the London Loop Footpath and accessed via Shirley Church Road.

The Centre building comprises a large hall, two side rooms, toilets, showers and a fully equipped kitchen. It can be used for meetings, training events, overnight stays etc.

The grounds can be used for outdoor activities, e.g. backwoods cooking and wide games.

The Centre is available for hire to Scout and Guide Groups, school groups and youth organisations. Hire charges are scaled according to requirements – building and/or grounds – and hire duration – evening, day or weekend use.

Although the site has no resident warden, it is cared for and maintained by a small group of dedicated volunteers.
